Stitch Custom Home
The Stitch custom home is one of six homes on Elon University’s Loy Farm that have been designed to showcase a variety of unique sustainability strategies, including; reduced site impact, lower energy consumption, onsite energy production, responsible water consumption, water filtration, and low carbon footprint.
The Stitch house is the only home to stack its bedrooms on the second floor. By doing so, the home significantly reduces its foundation’s footprint. The design takes advantage of this height with its built-in rainwater fountain and garden. During storms, students witness how much rainwater a typical home displaces and bring awareness to how runoff affects the local ecosystem. However, with the Stitch house, the rainwater is captured in a cistern and can be used on site.
This custom design was brought to fruition by Haven Design|Build’s construction team.
